living for the weekend

October 6, 2009

since O. seems to have a handle on the OHNY itinerary, i’ll throw out some suggestions for food pit stops — all that tunnel ‘splorin will make a girl hungry!

saturday brunch in cobble hill (warning: ladies, prepare your ovaries, i hear this is the blonde baby capital of brooklyn):

  • bocca lupo: “Delicious! A few of us went to Boca Lupo for what became an epic meal. Plate after plate of delicious things were consumed, glasses were smashed (OK, one glass, I talk with my hands!)”
  • cafe luluc: “It’s all in the pancakes. Crispy on the outside, and fluffy like a cloud in the middle…Cute quaint little spot to have brunch with old friends
  • apt 138: “cheapies and chowhounds alike will delight in the seemingly endless something-for-everyone menu”

lunch in west village

  • katz’s: pastrami on rye. period.
  • russ and daughters: best lox i’ve found so far.

sushi dinner (i demand a second attempt at the whole ‘digestion’ thing)

  • aki on w. 4th: $$ 181 w. 4th
  • sushi samba: $$$ 87 – 7th av.
  • blue ribbon sushi: $$ 119 sullivan st

other random food-gasms

  • steve’s authentic key lime pie, red hook: “you must try a “swingle” — key lime pie on a stick, dipped in chocolate and frozen. Hands down the best key lime pie I have ever had”
  • tom’s, prospect heights: “a brooklyn institution” (gotta plug my ‘hood)
  • OTTO enoteca pizzeria, chelsea: CHEAP mario batali resto!
  • chickalicious dessert club, east village: 3-course dessert tasting!!
  • donut plant, les: need i say more!!!

backed by popular demand, ladies and gents, i give you the SWINGLE!

Good lord M, all this time you’ve been trying to sell Redhook and all you had to do was mention the Swingle. Swingle swingle swingle, delicious, might have just wet myself.

I may or may not have just literally licked my lips at the thought of a Swingle. Alone, at my computer, at 3:30am. I love my life.

Think we can marry the food and OHNY itineraries by way of post- (or pre-) Apollo soul food?

    dear O, for your consideration:

    - DINOSAUR BAR-B-QUE: “Remember the opening sequence of the Flintstones cartoon? The part where they goto dinosaur BBQ and a huge rack is thrown on their car and the car tips over. Yah, this place rocks.”

-AMY RUTH’S: “breaded, fried and smothered. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.”

-UPTOWN JUICE BAR: “I don’t often associate the words VEGGIE and SOUL FOOD. Like I don’t associate JESSICA SIMPSON and BRAIN. But, as shit happens…”
